Alexandria Public Library Correction: items accepted for military care packages Aug 5-Sep. 1

Dear Patrons, In the library's newsletter mailed on Monday, August 2 we included information about items being collected for our local military personnel serving overseas. Please note the following correction: ITEMS ARE BEING COLLECTED DURING THE MONTH OF AUGUST AND WILL BE SHIPPED THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER! The community is gathering personal items and money or gift cards to be used to purchase items for our local service men and women. Donations will be accepted here in the library, at the Methodist and Baptist churches, and at the Church of Christ AUGUST 5th through SEPTEMBER 1st. If you have a service person you would like to include, please call Miss Ina Rae at 924.5671 before August 16. Miss Ina Rae asks especially for personal thank you notes or letters for the troops, to thank them for their service. If you are involved with a Sunday School class, volunteer organization or even if your family would like to show your support, please get the notes into the box as well - before SEPTEMBER 1st! If you have questions about this project, please contact either Miss Ina Rae or the Methodist church office at 924.3731. Thanks in advance for your generosity. It is my pleasure to announce on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Alexandria Public Library, that on Friday, July 16 at 5:30PM we will be dedicating our meeting room to the memory of longtime volunteer and former Board member Mr. Robert Nichols. Please join us for ribbon cutting, cake and ice cream prior to the opening of Fun Days. On Saturday, July 17 visit us for our Semi-Annual Book Sale from 9AM-4PM. There will be lots of items including videos, audio books, and print materials for any age - all available for a donation of your choosing. If you haven't yet received a Census form, please stop by the library and pick one up. A representative from the Census Bureau will be available during selected hours Monday through Thursday through April 19 to answer questions about the Census. Of special interest this month, we're hosting a Beaded Jewelry Program on Thursday, February 11 at 7PM. This is the perfect course for the beginner or intermediate. Teens and adults are welcome. We only have 18 spots, so hurryregistration is open through February 4th! Please note that if there should be a Level 2+ snow emergency called for Licking County that evening, our programming will have to be rescheduled. Winter sessions of Toddler and Story Times begin Monday, January 4th. Please email us at <a href="mailto:dshedloski@alexandria.lib.oh">dshedloski@alexandria.lib.oh</a>, call us at 740.924.3561, or stop in the library to register your child for a winter adventure with Miss Pam. It has been a tough year economically for us all and Library funding for 2009 was reduced almost 20% from 2008 levels. Projections for 2010 estimate an additional reduction of 6-8%. We have already trimmed hours, electronic databases and materials budgets; frozen salaries; and left open staffing positions unfilled. Unfortunately, this is not enough to balance our income to expenses and we will be making additional cuts to materials budgets and effective January 4, we will be CLOSED ON FRIDAYS. Please accept our apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. As always your support of our library is much appreciated and we look forward to any feedback you may have! In conjunction with the Village's Holiday Parade, the Library is hosting our Fifth Annual Art Show in the meeting room from 10AM-4PM on Saturday, December 12. If youd like to participate, please pick up an application at the Librarys front desk. All materials must be received by no later than Wednesday, December 9. The Johnstown-Northridge Food Pantry is collecting new toys/games appropriate for infants through teens. Gifts can be dropped here in the collection box from December 1-14. Your contributions can make all the difference for a child. Thank you in advance for your generous donation! Thank you for your continued support of our library and programming.
